Broadway Pied à Terre,

San Francisco, California

This Pied à Terre remodel in a San Francisco Pacific Heights high-rise juxtaposes elements of solid and void, darkness and light, and hard and soft.   The project maximizes the openness of the penthouse-like panoramic view while at the same time preserving privacy.  The removal of all existing kitchen partitions lends the 1,000 sq. ft. corner unit a sense of spaciousness.  With the new openness, upon entering the unit the eye is drawn towards the sweeping cityscape view.  Relocating the en-suite master bathroom walls improves functionality, and the addition of a full height sliding etched glass partition brings natural light and views into the deepest part of the compact luxury urban living space.  Throughout the unit the contrast of finish materials defines the overall renewed aesthetics of the home. The warmth and calmness of fine-grained floor-to-ceiling wood paneling surrounds the weekenders with comfort, while the clean lines of the metal glass curtain wall frames the rich city view beyond.
